Case StudiesOur customers represent leading spine surgeons, institutions, associations, and companies who believe in the power of collaboration and its ability to improve patient outcomes. Applied SpineIn January 2007, Applied Spine received permission to begin a randomized, controlled clinical study to compare the Stabilimax NZ® Dynamic Spine Stabilization System against traditional posterolateral fusion. To facilitate this multi-center study, the company turned to Syndicom, the premier developer of collaborative communities, and its widely embraced SpineConnect platform, which is currently used by over 900 spine surgeons around the world. Surgeons participating in the clinical trial use SpineConnect’s TrialEdge, a unique Web-based service built on Syndicom’s proven collaboration methodology, to improve their ability to identify, enroll, and retain patients. As a result, Applied Spine has seen faster patient enrollment, better trial quality, and lower costs. An added advantage has been the generation of teaching cases for educational purposes, marketing, and research, and development. NuVasiveNuVasive is an innovation-based medical device company focusing on the design, development, and marketing of products for the surgical treatment of spine disorders. The company wanted to enrich the XLIF® procedure training experience for surgeons by encouraging peer-to-peer discussions. The company turned to Syndicom, the premier developer of collaborative communities, and its widely embraced SpineConnect platform – currently used by over 900 spine surgeons around the world. The new training process now incorporates Syndicom’s Technology Fellowship, which is built on the SpineConnect platform. Modeled after fellowship training programs in the real world, Syndicom’s virtual Technology Fellowship Group not only facilitates peer-based mentoring, but also provides a window for NuVasive into the nuances of the training experience. Thanks to Technology Fellowships, surgeons have an increased appreciation for the XLIF procedure and promote it among their colleagues. Now NuVasive has additional opportunities to modify their education , training and sales processes based on discussions taking place within the group. UCLA Comprehensive Spine CenterThe UCLA Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Spine Fellowship is a comprehensive program that offers clinical and research opportunities in all aspects of spinal disease. Dr. Jeffrey C. Wang, Chief of the UCLA Spine Service and Director of the UCLA Spine Surgery Fellowship, identified an opportunity to use SpineConnect’s collaborative community as a way to enhance the learning experience of his fellows, and to provide an environment for ongoing real-time communication among UCLA Spine Fellowship alumni. SpineColoradoSpineColorado acts as a regional center of excellence for back and neck problems, and a significant part of the practice is devoted to research. A recent study, in partnership with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and UCLA, looked at fusion rates following anterior cervical fusion with and without steroids. To compile and analyze the data from the multi-center study, the participants turned to Syndicom and its widely embraced SpineConnect platform - currently in use by over 900 spine surgeons worldwide. Using SpineConnect’s ResearchEdge, the surgeons uploaded the data and images to one centralized location for easy management. Later, data was quickly extrapolated to produce an abstract that was accepted at the Cervical Spine Research Society’s Annual Meeting. |
